We have been taught in schools and colleges since childhood, that there are millions of galaxies exist in the universe, which is full of stars and planets. Some of these planets and stars, we see shining in the night in the sky. Although it is certified from many facts and points that these stars and planets in the universe are different, they do not have similarities, but some people still claim that planets and stars are same, after the big bang, millions of crores of stars were born in the universe, Some of the stars becomes worth living and many of them not. So these claims are true or not? Are all the planets stars? And if it is not so then what is the difference between stars and planets?

Is all the planet stars?

No, the planets and stars are not equal in any way. As those people claimed that some stars became worth living at the time of creation which became known by the name of the planet otherwise it is all the same. If their claim is true, then there should be many similarities in the stars and planets, but there is no equality in addition to looking at the same so that all those claims are proved wrong. Now let’s talk about differences between stars and planets, so there are considerable inequalities between stars and planets, so let’s know about them…

What Are Stars

Now you must be thinking, who does not know about the stars, all have come to see them since childhood, but its scientific definition is a bit complicated, which may not be known at everyone.

Stars are like luminous balls of plasma held together by their own gravity. They are made of gases such as hydrogen, helium and other similar light gases. Now let’s talk about the shine of stars, so the stars shine because of the nuclear reaction in their core which happens because of the fusion of hydrogen into helium. This atomic reaction in stars emits continuous energy in the form of light, due to which we become able to see them.

With shining, the stars also appear twinkling, so is it true or only the illusion of our eyes? So this is not an illusion of our eyes, but the stars actually twinkle. The twinkling of stars is actually atmospheric refraction which happens when the light of star falls on the earth it passes through the atmosphere of the earth, and due to this refraction stars appear twinkling.

What Are Planets

Just like the stars, we all are aware of Planet, everyone knows about Earth, Saturn, Jupiter. But most of do not aware of the scientific or you can say the perfect definition of a planet. So as per the International Astronomical Union, a planet is that which caters to these 3 characteristics, first a planet must be so large that it has enough gravity to do it in a circular shape, second it must be orbiting a star, such as the earth orbiting the sun and the third and last, it must be so powerful and large so its gravity wiped away any other objects of a similar size from the area around its orbit. So anything which fulfills these three points is worthy of being called a planet.

While the stars are made of mild gases, the planets contain a mix of solids, liquids and various gases. They do not have their own light like stars, they are illuminated with the light of stars, like the earth from the sun’s light.

Difference Between Stars And Planets

so you can understand difference between stars and planets by this chart…

Comparison Basis Planets Stars
Meaning The planet refers to a giant object that has so much gravity that it can take a round shape. Planets have fixed orbits, around which they revolve. Stars are glowing balls of plasma which contains light gases such as hydrogen and helium and they shines due to nuclear reaction in their core.
Position Yes, the position of planets keeps changes. The position of the stars changes, but it takes a long time.
Temperature Most planets have normal temperature. Stars always have a high temperature.
Made With Made with solids, liquids and various gases. Stars made with light gases such as hydrogen and helium.
Light Planets do not have their own lights. But Stars have their own lights.
Shape Planets are sphere-shaped. Stars are dot shaped.
Twinkle Planets do not twinkle. But stars twinkle.
Size Planets are big but as compared to stars they are small. As compared to planets Stars are big.
Number There are 8 planets in our solar system but can be more or less for other solar systems. In one solar system, There is only 1 star.
