Do you use the internet? And do you use the web? Now some people might be thinking that what was the need to ask the same question twice, the internet and the web are the same? Is there really no difference between internet and web? I do not think all of you will have the same answers, so let’s know if these two are the same? And if it is not so, then what is the difference between the internet and the web? So let’s start with their introduction…

What Is Internet

However, it is very funny, because we all are using the internet for a long time and we all know about it, but to understand the difference between the internet and the web, let’s know the Internet once again, which is important.

The internet is a global network system, which uses the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to connect devices worldwide. It is a network of networks, under which all types of networks are connected, such as private, public, academic, business and government networks ranging from local to global scales. When two devices are connected over the Internet, they can send and receive all kinds of information such as text, graphics, voice, video, and other data. The Internet contains a large array of services and information resources, such as hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, telephony, and file sharing.

Often people have a question in their mind that who owns the internet, who created it? So the answer is, no one owns the internet, it is a global network system which opens for all. The discovery of the Internet was done in the 1960s by the United States federal government to create strong, fault-tolerant communication with computer networks.

What Is Web

Web, which we know by the name of the World Wide Web, is a global information system, where all kinds of internet information or resources such as photos, videos, documents, etc. are given place and in order to access them, a URL is determined, which you can run through the internet. The web uses the HTTP protocol language which is the only one of the languages spoken over the internet, to transfer data.

Tim Berners-Lee an English scientist was the person who invented the World Wide Web in 1989. In 1990, Tim Berners-Lee wrote the first web browser. Tim Berners-Lee called the server “httpd” and dubbed the first client “WWW.” Later in 1991, The World Wide Web has become available throughout the world. At present, there are more than 1.5 billion websites on the world wide web and from these, only less than 200 million are websites or web pages are working actively.

Difference Between The Internet And The Web

By reading about both the internet and the web, you may have understood that these two are not the same. Although the web and the internet are interconnected, but these two are different. The Internet is a global network system while the Web is a database of information which is accessed through the Internet. The internet is like a bag full of books and the web is just a book inside it. Apart from the web on the Internet, there are many things that can be accessed without web, such as applications, etc. But whatever is available on the web can not be accessed without internet. The web is an integral part of the Internet but not a need, whereas the Internet is a great need of the web without which, the web is nothing.
